Have Questions About Teen and Child Therapy? We’ve Got Answers

What age is best to start child therapy?

Therapy can be helpful for children as young as preschool age if emotional or behavioral challenges are affecting their daily life. The earlier your child gets support, the sooner they can build coping skills to carry them through school and beyond.

Both work to improve a child’s mental health, but their training and credentials may vary. What’s most important is finding a licensed professional with experience supporting children and teens.

Start by looking for a therapist who specifically works with children and adolescents, and who has experience treating the issues your child is facing. A consultation can give you the chance to ask questions and see if your child feels comfortable opening up with them.

Sessions usually last around 45–50 minutes. For younger kids, or when families are included in the process, a therapist may adjust the session length to keep it effective and engaging.

The answer depends on your child’s specific needs. Play therapy, art therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) are some of the most common approaches we use to help children express themselves and learn new coping strategies.

The cost of your sessions depends on your therapist’s credentials and the length of the meeting. Since See You Through It Counseling is an out-of-network provider, you’ll receive a Superbill to submit to your insurance after your session. Many plans reimburse between 50%–80% of the cost depending on your coverage.
