Dan Lerner is a Master’s Student Intern in Rowan University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program, completing his clinical placement at SYTI Counseling. Dan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and brings a rich background in community mental health and youth support to his work.
Prior to joining SYTI Counseling, Dan worked as a Teacher’s Assistant at a specialized school for children, where he helped youth build critical life skills, navigate social interactions, and manage behavioral challenges. He also served as a Group Facilitator in a behavioral health setting, leading groups on emotional regulation, personal development, and coping strategies for adults navigating complex mental health conditions and addiction.
Dan works with children (ages 7+), teenagers, and adults. He specializes in supporting you through:
- Anxiety and Depressive Disorders
- Relationship Stressors and Interpersonal Communication
- Behavioral Concerns and Anger Management
- Emotional Regulation and Stress Management
- Social Skills, Confidence, and Neurodiverse Support (ADHD/Autism)
- Life Transitions and Personal Growth
Clinical Approach: Dan’s therapeutic style integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills. Through this framework, he helps you develop psychological flexibility, learn practical tools for emotional regulation and distress tolerance, navigate relationship dynamics, and build a meaningful life aligned with your values.
Dan views therapy as a collaborative, two-expert process: he brings clinical tools and psychological frameworks to the room, while you bring the essential expertise on your own lived experience. He strives to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you feel truly seen, heard, and supported.
Outside the Office: When he’s not in the clinic, Dan enjoys playing video games, watching movies, making art, and working on freelance graphic design projects. He loves spending time with friends and has a soft spot for all animals—especially pigs, dogs, and birds!
Dan is supervised directly by Alyssa Scolari, MA, LPC, ACS, who is the owner of See You Through It Counseling. Alyssa’s NJ License Number is 37PC00718700.
