Samuel (Sam) Damiri is a master’s level intern at Rowan University. Sam finished his BA in Psychology in May of 2022 at Rowan University and is on track to graduate with a master’s in clinical mental health counseling in the spring of 2026. Sam has experience working in a behavioral health inpatient hospital as a mental health technician. As well as working at Rowan Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine as a Health Educator for the SBIRT grant. Stationed at Rowan University’s Wellness Center, Sam worked with college students to provide psychoeducation and referrals for substance and alcohol use.
Sam is a firm believer in meeting clients where they are and having mutual understanding and building a therapeutic relationship out of trust. Using humor and wit to connect with clients to create a comfortable environment to collaborate as a team. Sam believes that therapy should be a collaborative process and will meet you where you are to ensure the best overall wellness.
Sam has a passion for working with the LGBTQIA+ population, as well as teenagers and young adults. He also has an interest in pet therapy as he grows into his career, witnessing firsthand both professionally and personally how therapeutic animals can be. These populations often suffer from anxiety, depression, eating disorders and general life stressors.
Sam has a unique style of blending different techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Therapy, Humanistic. These modalities help the client explore deeper emotions and connections to help build relationships.
Outside of counseling, you can find Sam enjoying time with friends and family. As well as baking, flower and vegetable gardening, cheering on the Phillies and Eagles and enjoying sitting on the dock/bank fishing.
